Your privacy is assured. Everyone involved in your care is bound by a confidentiality agreement and by the Health Information Privacy Code, which governs how your health information is collected, used and kept.
If there’s something you’d like to share with us that feels sensitive or personal, please be reassured: we’ll always respect your rights and treat what you tell us in confidence.
Your Rights as a Patient
When you use any health or disability service in New Zealand, you’re protected by the Code of Health and Disability Services Consumers’ Rights.
The Code sets out ten rights that everyone receiving care is entitled to, and we’re committed to upholding every one of them.

freedom from discrimination, coercion, harassment and exploitation.
The right to dignity and independence

The right to an appropriate standard of care (Tautikanga)
services provided with reasonable care and skill.
The right to effective communication (Whakawhitiwhitinga whakairo)
information shared in a way you can understand, with an interpreter available where needed.
The right to be informed

about your condition, your options, and the likely benefits, risks and costs.
The right to choice and consent

to make your own informed decisions, and to give or withhold consent.
The right to support

to have a support person, or people, with you where practicable.
